The rumours and speculation on some of the woodworking forums are true:  Axminster Tools & Machinery is opening a new store in Basingstoke, and it will be holding its launch event on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th October.

The new store situated on Winchester Road (RG22 6HN) will be number six for the company, other stores are based in Axminster (Devon), Sittingbourne (Kent), High Wycombe, Nuneaton and Warrington.

With 7,700 square feet of retail space, Basingstoke will be the first of the Axminster stores to open seven days a week in line with most other retail outlets in the area, recognising that many customers, due to their own work / life commitments, find it convenient to shop on a Sunday.

It will also be the first store to display the new company signage and trade under the name of Axminster Tools & Machinery.

The store will stock all of the most popular lines and brands, plus it will be possible to order in- store anything from the full range of the Axminster Tools & Machinery catalogue.

Retail Development Director, Darran McLeod said: “Whilst this new store may be smaller than some of the other branches, we are introducing a new format with improved layout and different merchandising techniques which will enhance the product and provide the customer with more information. Despite these changes, the store will still maintain the Axminster ethos of offering high quality advice and customer service”.

When choosing the site for the new store, the company looked at more than twenty other premises in the south of England.  “The potential of the Basingstoke site soon became apparent” continued Darran. “It provides a store that will enable products to be displayed effectively and is in a highly populated area with a solid infrastructure, making the store easily accessible for not only the people of Basingstoke, but also the surrounding areas”.
