Alan Styles, Axminster Tools MD

The Young Furniture Makers exhibition returns to the City of London for one day only this October. The Furniture Makers’ Company organises the exhibition, giving industry the opportunity to connect with young, creative talent. Going forward, these young people are the designer-makers of the future looking to make an impact on the sector.

Axminster Tools & Machinery is the main sponsor this year, together with supporting partners Celtheath Contract Furniture, The January Furniture Show and The Furniture Ombudsman. As in previous years, the event will showcase the very best furniture and furnishing design talent from GCSE students to young professionals.

Axminster’s Managing Director Alan Styles is a liveryman with The Furniture Makers’ Company and keen to support all aspects of their work. “The exhibition allows students to put themselves across to different people and meet other students from other colleges. And from industry too. It allows them to learn how to present themselves which is a good skill as they go further forward into their careers,” commented Alan.

Doors to the exhibition will open at 12.00pm on Wednesday 9 October. At 7pm Dids Macdonald OBE, Master of The Furniture Makers’ Company, will officially welcome guests from across the furnishing and design sector. Then, the prize giving will take place. Director and designer-maker Sebastian Cox will be the special guest at the awards presentation in the evening.

Around 150 of the best breakthrough design talent will be exhibiting furniture and lighting at Furniture Makers’ Hall and the Dutch Church, 12 Austin Friars, London EC2N 2HE.

Here are a few examples of pieces that will be on show at the exhibition:

Moe Redish’s Slide is shortlisted for the Design Award.
