Having found that the world of freelance design is shrinking I have turned my hand to spot of woodworking, thankfully I have managed to get a few commissions

Hi Mike, I must say that I am not at all surprised that you have been commissions for your work. The boxes are superb! I love the unusual wavey design of the lid. Lovely work, we'll done.

cheers. Ian

Hi and welcome Mike.

A couple of great boxes, as Ian said I also like the wavy join of the lid. I see you made your own hinges as well

Did you use a jig for the corner splines.

Hope the people receiving these enjoy them

Great job Mike. I like the "organic" look too, made all the better by making your own hinges.

Thanks for the comments. the corner splines were cut freehand with a router but I am in the process of making a new router table with all the attachments

Very beautiful and interesting boxes! Like the wooden hinges and the great joinery. Those are real keepers. Great work!

Thanks for all the comments - i'm finding this a very useful site for help, tips tricks etc. Compared to most of the things i've seen on here I am very much an amateur, although at the moment very frustrated as I am not allowed in my shed at the moment because I am recovering from a major operation. Having said that its giving me lots of time to plan my next projects on Google sketchup.

If anyone is interested here is a link to my other boxes on flickr

Sorry Mike, I have to disagree with your comment about being "very much an amateur". These boxes show a very high degree of skill and craftsmanship, something to be justifiably proud of IMHO smiley

Some very interesting boxe's Mike, and some good contrast going on.

With regard's to the amateur statement, I have seen some excellent piece's made by amateur's, quite often good enough to rival any professional, sometime's even better than a professional.

Thanks for the comments. I have just got my first commission on the back of the Jaguar XK 120 box, it is to produce a box with the profile of a 1955 Jaguar D-type for the guy that owns the restored Mike Hawthorne car. So you can imagine how chuffed I am
