How sharp are your planer blade. If you think they are sharp how about trying this.

We will have to try this at the club some time........

9microns seems impossible.

There is a demonstrator at the International Woodworking Show at Cressing Temple, a Mr Watanabe, who makes items with traditional Japanese tools, I saw him surface a blank with a Japanese plane and got lovely thin shavings 3' long and I thought that was impressive! He would spray water on the blank some times, something I have yet to try

This subject has been discussed in another forum. Apparently the planes and blades are specially made for this competition - they are not for normal use. Also the wood is rather special - you will note the complete lack of knots or even grain! It is also planed wet. Impressive nonetheless.
