Hi there, I wonder if anybody can help me to find the right finish to protect the wood for the bird table I am making for a friend who insisted on it being made out of hardwood.

Erm, I wouldn't use ash for an out door project such as a bird table as it isnt durable, you would be better of using oak, iroko or sapele.

Hi Alan,

If you make it from oak it doesn't require a finish and will be extremely durable.

Thanks,

Neil

I have to say that I make all of mine from pressure treated timber from the wicks shed, it's done me ok over the years and pretty cheap too.
