Drill Press advice Please

I am intending to buy a floor standing drill press. My max budget would be £400.

I am inclined towards SIP 750 W model or the Jet ( under 400 £ ) model.

 

Any one has these machines? and any words of wisdom will be great.

i haven't got either of the drill presses that you are on about but if you are any were near harrogate then you my get a show deal that is worth waiting for it is on at the end of November. and i think sip and jet are there i think.

I don't have the particular model you mention either, but I do have the Jet JDP-15 bench mounted version, which is 900W rather than 750 (the floor standing version is 1000W). Definitely worth the extra money IMHO. Very well made, with a 16mm keyless chuck and almost zero run-out for high accuracy. It also has a "wet" table so you can use lubricants when drilling metal if you need to. Nothing wrong with SIP tools either, so it really comes down to accuracy, spindle travel and things like throat depth.

 

As Dennis says, keep an eye out for the various shows where you can pick up real bargains.

If I was in the market I would go with the Jet machine espesialy if it comes from Axminster tools as I have heard they are good with customer back up. Which goes a long way.
