Thought I would try this style of bowl for a change (Knuckles kept out of way).
I am pretty pleased with the outcome Bowl made from Chestnut and finished with Finishing Oil
Size is 7" long 5" wide and the bowl is 4 3/4"

Nice bowl derek, it looks very dark for chestnut, did you stain it?

I must admit that a square bowl is one of the things that I want to have a go at one day.

Lovely bowl Derek. I've not tried any proper offset turning yet (other than a really out of balance large blank!), so this is just the incentive.

Thats spot on Derek I like this one a lot, Pitty you couldnt get a ceramic one like that somewhere to put the bread and butter, i like how thin you have gone with it well done.

That is a very impresive piece of turning, not an easy thing to do but you have done it really well.

Thanks all for the comments. The flat area is 1/8" thick and was turned very carefully with the lightest of cut and finished with sandpaper and the lathe stopped.
No way was i going to sand that part with the lathe on.
The bowl part was sanded with the lathe on.

Al it is chestnut but I think the picture does not help as it came out darker than it actually is
