Hi Derek,
I thought there was a lot of skill went into the pieces that were on display. I must have stood next to George for a time when the judging was disclosed but the avata doesn't realy give an indication of who the person realy is. I loved the stem on Ralph's piece and was pleased to be able to look at Dennis's work close up.

Just brilliant Ralph. Artistry and talent in wood turning par excellence. Well done seems inadequate. Cheers Alan T.

These were not the piece i was originally going to enter, i had a bad year last year and got nothing finished, these were only ready last weekend.
The clock i had been designing for the show will have to wait till next year now.

Thanks for the photos Ralph it gives beginners like me something to aim for (will I ever get anywhere near).
Absolutely stunning piece, apart from the high level of turning I don't know how you think up the design.
Once again congratulations to those that got placed.

All it takes is practice and trawling the web for ideas to play with, i find the american woodturning sites very enspiring when looking for ideas.
And as i have said before, i failed woodwork at school so if i can anyone can !
The main points were the wire didnt go down well and the goblet had too many different timbers in it, if using a contrast timber like the bead always go for black it suits anything unlike the purple heart i used.

Well different day different judge Ralph, both of them were superb pieces. I thought the little ball inside the cage on the stem of the goblet was just so clever - Julian

The trouble is these days there really isnt anything "New" that we can do, so all we can do is put our own twist on someone elses work, (no pun intended)
Sometimes it is liked, sometimes it is just a bit too much and unless you know who is judging it is impossible to guess what is the best thing to do,

Fabulous work as usual Ralph.
Certainly deserving of more reward.
