If I were you Derek I would go and give the horse another coat, that's "exceedingly good".

Thanks for the compliments. This was just a practice piece for something else. The wood was just a piece of scrap chestnut (look at the main picture you can see the start of splits in the wood) and the knob on top from a old bit of garden furniture.
The lid just goes on with out rubbing but also without being loose. The finish was lathe polish and carnauba wax

I don't think I have that much "Time" especially when Paul Johnson 2 makes a Time Piece, I think he's rubbing salt in the wound ,, see his post.

Ron
How can you say that Ron I,ve seen your work it is good. I have only been turning since Sept 2008 and you can see it all in my albums. I just keep practicing

But thanks for the compliment all the same

Bill just get out in the shed and put chisel to wood and enjoy yourself. Don't be put off by mistakes as quite often you can see something else it can be turned into(Yes pun intended)

Bill
Hi Bill, I'm not rubbing salt in the wound it's people like you and other forum members that give me the Ideas tips and advice to go up the shed and practice and pratice and one day it falls into place and as you can see I aint got the best kit but it got me started on a budget.
I went up the shed today with the idea of making a goblet I couldnt get to grips with it chucked it in the bin spat the dummy out and closed the shed door but I will return.

I think you all sell yourselves short !

From what i have seen there are a lot of tallented turners here, that just maybe lack the confidence ! stick at it and as has already been said look at each others work and look for ideas

You are selling your self short Bill. As we have all said keep practicing and soon your display rack will contain more than the scrap bin

Ralph I keep looking at your work and there is a lot for me to aim for.

Ron I agree you can't beat practice

Anyway just popped out in the shed this afternoon for more practice and to enjoy myself. The problem I have is every time I bring a piece in the wife wants to keep it, soon have nowhere to put anything.

Not sure of wood but it is about 6"dia by 2.5" tall
