Here are  the first fifty balls for the china smash,
Those who know me know I support a local restoration project,ie Stotfold Mill well every May we have a big weekend to raise money, amongst the atrractions is a china smash stall, for which we had a good stock of balls, which I have made over the previous years,,each year I would make  more to top up the number of balls. well last year after the May day event some kind person pinched all the balls and the box stand that held them, so I am startiting from scratch again.
I call them balls but they do not have to be perfect as they are thrown not rolled.

George. I thought you were being rude there for a moment!

Good job there are people who do this sort of thing, nearly all the historic buildings in this country would have disappeared by now but for people like you. Bankers bonuses matter far more than old mills.

You are a patient man George.  I would have thrown one through the window long before I got to 50 I think!  They look pretty good though.

I hope you do well with the fund raiser mate........also, make sure you keep them close by afterwards, nothing worse than having your balls whipped again!

Hi Guys
Thanks for your kind remarks, yes I have got the patience , it the get up and go I find hard! to leave a nice warm bungalow and to stand in a cold worshop at a lathe, still I am getting there I have turned  another 70 so that makes 120 I want to make 200, I have to look round for some more timber as I have used up all the offcuts I was given.
I don't run the stall a nice Irish lady and her sons and grandchildren run it. with a bit more help, she is always on the look out for old china and collects it throughout the year.
It is a good money spinner and she has taken £500 over the may week end, people line up to have a go, well you work it out ' 5 balls for 50p that is a 1000 customers or they have to throw 5000 balls , so if I supply 200 each ball will have to be used 25 times, not all the balls survive the contact with the china, and some skid of and are lost, they are kept pretty busy replacing china and collecting balls.
Our May weekend is the 8th79th May , all details can be found on the mills web site www.stotfoldmill.com Thanks again for your kind remarks George. Sparky if I loose any more balls I will sign in as Georgina
