In this months Woodworking Plans and Projects, there is a plan for a Mission Style bed. To join the rails to the head and foot boards they use knock down fasteners. Now for all the beds that I have made in the past I have usde mortise and tenon joints for these connections, but I quite like the idea of using the fasteners for my current project. I have searched the web for them but can only find them in the US. I have emailed the editor of the mag and he says that he got them from Screwfix. I have trawled the screwfix website with no luck.

Have any of you guy any ide who sells them in the UK

 Cheers

Chris

Hafele do stock a version of theis item but it is a non-mortised version. I have ordered a couple of sets from Faber and Smith just to see what they are like. Ideally, I would like to get hold of the ones in the picture.

I made a bed a couple of years ago and used mortised fixings, but I had to import them from Rockler in the US. The fixings available in the UK, even from Hafelle, are nothing like the same quality.

Hi Keith

The picture above is from the Rockler website. The fasteners look excellent and are quite cheap $10.99, But it costs up to $80 to ship them. Thats why Im trying to find a UK distributor.

Ah unfortunately sparky, shipping to the US at $6.99.

Chris I emailed them and got them sent via land/boat or very slow plane and they didn't charge anything like $80. It would be worth contacting them, they are very helpful.

Isaac Lord have the non morticed type. From experience they are easy to fit and work perfectly well.

I have been searching for ages for these - thanks very much guys - i should have known better & put a post on the forum.

The little one (young daughter) wanted a mid sleeper bed & decided to base it on a swedish style bed - wanted it to be knock down & would have saved myself a HUGE amount of time and effort having to cut mortise & tenons for the whole lot.

Well its nearly done now, and we are about to move, so i can build the next one a bit faster, still saved myself about £250 on the retail by building it.

I went to Browns timber in Blackburn, which was a recommendation by you guys, good outfit and they don't sting me for being a hobbyist (retail)

 Thanks again
