Hi, complete newbie here, I've just acquired a very old, but working lathe.
However I'm unable to remove the faceplate, it is completely stuck, and I can't find any means of locking the spindle.
The lathe is is a Woodwise PW15-50, any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

There are vaious things you can try, could you post a picture of the lathe so we can see the problem better

Hi David, welcome to the forum. Yes it is a bit quiet on here these days. You may find a way of locking the spindle under the belt cover on the headstock but if memory serves me this is a Poolwood mechanical variable speed lathe so be very careful of the pullies as they can break quite easily. Try some heat on the faceplate and soak it in WD40 for a few hours, it will come off but be careful when you persuade it. Julian
PS - a thin paper washer may stop it happening again
