![]() 47 forum posts 10 photos | Well a little advice needed, I have not made this staircase but it will be fitted in our new retail shop, its made of redwood with ash treads. The treads have anti slip inserts at the front and it all complies with current building regs. Well any thoughts or advice gratefully received form members Merry Christmas to all John Oh! just finished another rocking horse for a wee lass for Santa to deliver Edited By John F on 20/12/2016 23:42:44 Edited By John F on 20/12/2016 23:43:36 |

![]() 99 forum posts 12 photos | John, The finish i have promoted on a few occasions has beeen Rustin's plastic Coating, which is a very hard two pack melamine finish of immense strength, either use in natural gloss or dilute with thinners to make satin. Google Rustin's etc. and have a look. Derek. |

![]() 47 forum posts 10 photos | Hi all well thought an update on the outcome may be useful, while this project was underway I needed some oak for some specialised racking in the new shop which I had ordered from British Hardwoods at Cross Hills near Skipton/Keighley, not far from me, whilst there I saw some flooring etc they had in the showroom and this was finished with Osmo Oil. After a conversation I purchased some and used this to finish the stairs, the result after 16 months daily foot traffic is indeed very pleasing, the finish has held up extremely well and from what I was told and seems logical application of a "booster" coat at some future time ought to be easy - time will tell on this point but I see no reason to doubt it. Three coats were applied in anticipation of the constant use. No connection to any of the companies or products other than a satisfied customer but thought my experience may be useful to other members Thanks again for the suggestions --- John |
