Hello,

My planer Thicknesser wouldn't start this morning. It was working ok till last night. I changed the fuse , the motor tries to kick start but within a fraction of a second it blows the fuse. I changed the fuse thrice and each time it does the same.

Does anyone know what could be the problem?

Thank you

Andy

Hi Andrew -- Could be any number of things, I would dis the starter capacitor and try again as this could have a short if it's leaky otherwise there could be a shorted turn in the motor, you would need someone that knows a bit about motors to have a look at it. -- Julian

Hi Julian.

I spoke to an authorized stockist for charnwood who also suggested that it could be the start up capacitor. Anyway I am going to speak to the technical team at charnwood on Monday and hear what they have to say. I hope it's the start up capacitor and not anything bigger than that at fault. Thanks for your input.

Andrew.

Hi Andrew

The person you want to speak to is Darren at Charnwood, telephone 01530 516926.

I agree it's normally the capacitors that blow, replacements are reasonable cheap too and simple to change.

Feel free to contact me for further information.

Thanks Rayan. I spoke to charnwood and got it sorted. They advised me to change both the capacitors which I did . Now it's all up and running. It costed me £36 for 2 capacitor including postage.
