Thread: Incinerator at Aldis

You'd be surprised Alan.  All goes well and then all of a sudden - whoops, oh dear what a shame (or words to that effect!)

Cheers Dave

PS I don't seem to be able to create a thread - it keeps throwing me back to the "Create a Thread" Page when I've finished and I can;t create a thread to ask why i can't create a thread....if you see what I mean.  Any ideas?
Thread: Where can I get this?
06/09/2010 16:42:23
Hi Richard

I don;t recall the article but I;ll have a look when i get home.  The Versachuck from The Toolpost comes well recommended.

The Sorby Patriot chuck is also good as is the Supernova.   I also have the Axminster Chuck (the big one) and that's good too.

What problems are you having?  Perhaps we could help you sort them out and save you some money?

Cheers Dave

You could also use it to burn all those turnings that donlt quite got to plan.

I save mine for a pal up the road who has a fire.

His usual quote is "that was nearly a superb piece!!"

Maybe someone else out there has an answer.

Thread: Need a Bearing
04/08/2010 17:25:02
Hi Olly

I just went for a straight replacement, but the service is excellent.  35 minutes after I placed the order I got an email to say they had been despatched.

Next time I need new bearings I'll go for the slightly more expensive (and presumably) better bearings.

Cheers Dave

Hi Guys

Mt SIP 14" Bandsaw needs new bearings.  I checked the number (608Z) and found them at Simply Bearings:

They cost just over £2 each plus VAT plus postage at £1.50.  If I'd bought 10 or more the price reduced but I only need 6 and they last ages.

I'm home on Friday so I'll let you know if they've come.

Thread: First Pens
29/07/2010 14:44:03
Nice pens Richard.

Belated happy birthday as well.

I make them for sale at craft fairs of which I only do a few each year.  at Christmas time they always sell well at about £7 each.  It's not a huge profit and you have to set up a mini production line to make it pay.

Enjoy the laminating - looking forward to seeing the results.

Thread: Hollow forms, my first attempt at a larger project
14/07/2010 22:07:31
Hi Garfield

Well done, It looks like it would be a challenge and it's come out well.

I've just started getting into hollow forms myself and it's not easy, but very satisfying when it works out.  I made  several napkin rings to start with!

Thread: Dennis's first Craft Fair
12/07/2010 13:06:38
Hi all

I do the odd fair and my success varies, usually, we do these as a club event.  Sales are best when we actually "sell".  It's not to everyone's taste but I have found that I do best when I engage with the punter - telling them about the wood, offering a discount if they buy two etc, all helps.

I also find that people quite often buy what you make.  I ususally turn fruit as I can finish turn an apple in about 10 minutes and sell it for between £2 and £3 depending on it's size etc.

The last event we went to we sold £300 between four of us.

And yes, people always want it for nothing!

 Cheers Dave
