Thread: Scrap

Thanks Guys
I think it looks better in the photo than in the flesh.
When I made it I only had a home made lathe , no chuck just a cheap face plate.  very few chisels, and knew very little about turning, not as I know so much now! the lid still fits after all this while,if  I had known about the Suede Tex flocking used by Alan in his canteen in the  Good Woodworking, that's if it was available then it would  have made a better finish to the interior.

Thread: lathe motor shaft

I agree with Ron , you can see a hair line fracture starting in the shaft where it has discoloured, what caused it to break is difficult to see .some thing must be out of line to cause the shaft to flex and break, ,if the shaft had been bent surely you would have noticed it when running, are you tightening the belts to tight? just asking.

I read an article on another site about the trouble they had to set up their new Record to get the head stock and tail stock to run true to each other, they complained of the poor standard of the castings and the way they wher left after fettling and painting, I am not saying that this had any bearing on your motor shaft failing.

Hope you are soon back producing your grand work again.

Where do you purchase the inks for your printer? I have an Epsom printer/scanner and it takes 6 inks, I recently had to rplace 5 coloured inks,I had a spare black  the five coloured inks cost only£10-99 I think that is a good price.

I get them from internet-ink.co.uk. I have used them for a long while and I have not had any bother with the ink.

Sparky re Ebay location you are correct  but they used to be displayed boldly on the right hand side not in the tiny writing the are using at this moment

That's a nice  bit of work you have done there , that's a lot of hours, how would you charge for that ? 24 hours  at 'the minimum wage £5-80 =£139-20 just for wages.  without any overheads and VAT.

I know you only do it as a hobby , with an odd sale day. so the time does not matter , but if you where trying to make a living  it would be very difficult, unless you can get it in one of the expensive galleries.

Still it is a very good effort.

Last week the wife purchased a pair of bed side lamps. we found we had no bulbs that would fit.they are SES small screw cap, when we went to purchase some bulbs we found that bulbs are no longer to be rated in Watts, but are to be  rated in what is called Lumen. the bulbs we purchased had  the two rates ,I suppose this will change once the new system is established. any way it said 28 watt =370 lumen.

Thank you common market.

I don't know if any one has tried Polyvine Wax Finish Varnish It is in Axminsters cata logue. the blurb says it has a high resistance to heat and very little influence on the colour.
Did'n't some one want some thing for a stair case that would not effect the colour?

Join the club, I've just had an xray  and been given stronger painkillers , they tell me it's wear and tear and there is nothing that can be done, so keep taking the tablets ,but avoid Viagra,
