well done Denis, I am afraid I am one of those people who do not particularly like pieces like that but that is just a personal opinion. I do however apreciate the skill required to produce it. It must have been hard with a hole that size as I am sure it must have been off balance. I am sure you felt the tool knocking as it passed over it.

I don't think I would feel confident enough to try something like it. All that said its a lovely piece, congrats.

Thread: what to do with a pice of checked and split wood
05/09/2012 14:18:44

Very nice Dennis, I love the finish you managed to get on it. I would not know where to start with a piece of wood like that so I would have had to make something much smaller.

well done. Ian

Thanks for that Dave, that is what I have been doing and it seems to work alright. I think it's a case of "if it's not broke, don't fix it"

Thread: Grain filler
10/08/2012 18:20:22

Hi there, I was wondering if anyone out there could help me. I am using grain filler to help me get a really shiny finish on some black walnut. Do I sand and then use filler and then seal or do I sand then seal and then use filler over the sanding sealer? I have seen it used both ways and just wondered if there is a right or wrong way to do it?

cheers. Ian
