You have been busy Richard. I love the box. It must be small as compared with the coin. Very neat work and the hinges are a lovely detail. Congratulations.

Well done Richard, I have never had the courage to turn anything with a large hole in it. I guess there must have been bits flying off at the start!

Hi Derek, thanks for your comments. Yes, all my own work but really wasteful. Would not make cabriole legs again ( I think!)

Thank you Al, the overall finish is Danish oil but the top as seen in my album was sprayed with two tins of Chestnut lacquer and then rubbed down with wet and dry paper from 400 to 2000. Then a final wax finish.

Hi Sam, yes you are right. I have just made the Knights and Kings and Queens so far but it is addictive .

Thanks Dennis, Looks like I will have to learn how to play!

Thanks Richard , I will add the rest of the men to my album eventually !

cheers. Ian

Hi Carl, lovely work, I love spalted beech but have never tried to turn anything with it yet. The bowls have a really nice pattern. Well done.

Hi There, I know I said "never again!" but here it is. I decided to make basicly the same table but this time with legs. Al, if you read this you are very wise to buy the legs.I found it to be such a waste of walnut once the initial shape had been cut out and of course the waste bits were not even enough to turn the pawns!

I am still in the porocess of turning the rest of the men which are slightly larger than the last set.

cheers Ian

Tremendous job Al, well done! I watched with envy as Norrm did his. I would never be able to do the carving bit at the front.

As Simon said it is indeed an heirloom. Congratulations on a truly wonderful piece.

Thread: Spalted beech shelf

Nice job Simon, the shelf looks great. I would imagine it is an unusual timber to use for a shelf. I don't believe I have seen one before. Well done
