    The Woodworker August 2008

    The Woodworker August 2008

It's a new look for the cover of The Woodworker this month, so we thought we should preview it well in advance, so you don't mistake it for an all-new magazine when you're at the newsagents! We feel the new design better reflects the contents of the magazine, with an emphasis on woodworking and turning.

Fear not, we haven't overhauled the whole magazine, inside you'll find all your usual favourites in all their usual places. There will be a few fresh items mind, which we think you'll enjoy.

In Projects our former editor turned features editor Ben Plewes has picked up his tools to make a cracking set of shelves. Ben's explained they're quite plain shelves, only there's devil in the detail, or rather dovetail as we quickly corrected him.

At the rear end of Projects you'll also find a new feature, called 'Saturday Project'. As so many of us are hobbyists with limited spare time we've compiled a series of wee projects that you'll be able to put together in a day, hopefully in a morning. Dave Mackenzie launches the series with a strawberry planter - because, if you know anything about gardening, this is the time to start planting out for next season.

    Left; New Saturday Workshop series.
    Right; Tormek TNT system review.
    Ben Plewes using a planer
Above; Top Ten Planer Thicknesser Tips

In Workshop Ian Taylor takes us on a guide of his workshop identifying his eight best tools that he simply couldn't live without. While from his workshop, Ben Plewes shows us the right way to work with the planer thicknesser.

Finally, in On Test Alan Holtham tests Tormek's TNT system - something that has outright changed his position on sharpening turning tools.

So there you have it. You'll have to patient, because you can't see any of this until July 11, but we trust you'll find the wait worth it.
