After scratching around looking for Bargains over the past few weeks I am pleased to report that the team have managed to find a handful of bargains at Lidl this week.

The first item to catch our eye was a 125mm Random Orbit Sander (ROS). This neat looking machine is supplied branded as Parkside (Lidl’s own house brand) in a cardboard box. There is no case but it comes with a dust collection box and adaptors for use with your own dust extractor. The body has a full sized palm grip as well as a forward handle for even more control. The finger trigger can be locked on for extended periods of running. The 125mm sanding pad will accept standard hook and loop sanding discs.  I am please to report that this machine is not as noisy as I had expected – a welcome surprise! The machine carries a 3 year manufacturer’s warranty and is supplied with one sanding disc to get you going. All this and a price tag of only £14.99 makes this the first star buy of the year!

To accompany the sander or to fit an existing 125mm sander, Lidl also have a pack of 30 assorted sanding discs on offer, comprising of 20 various grits intended for wood finishing as well as a selection of stone polishing grits and half a dozen discs intended for paintwork. At just £2.99 a pack I don’t think they will be around for long.

Also at Lidl, we found rolls of wire wool in various grades including 000, which is useful for applying wax and denibbing between coats of varnish. There are four grades available at £1.49 each.

To add one last bargain-buy to the list, we could not resist the stainless steel scraper set shown below. The set consists of five scrapers; 25, 50, 75 & 100mm wide plus a special purpose shaped scraper with tack/nail puller. The one piece blade/handle extends the whole length of the tool and is dressed with hardwood grips, brass riveted through the stainless steel. These scrapers have many uses around the workshop for spreading glue and fillers as well as removing excess and dried glue after assembly. At £4.99 for the set that is just a smidgen under a pound each – Now that has to be a bargain worth having!

Happy Hunting!
