I reckon I could make this with a router.....not using a lathe at all. It would probably take a while though!

Mike

Yes it is possible to make it with the router ! but wheres the fun in that ?

I have seen some pieces on line which have used both lathe and router they look great but for me the fun is in turning something delicate, & holding a chisel to do it. Like carving I supose

I tend to agree Ralph, I feel turning one of these to be an art were as a router to be machined. Sorry Mike.

Yes i agree Marc

But each to their own after all i cant do a lot of things on my lathe which can be done with a router.

In contrast to you two, though, I don't have a lathe! Therefore, I have to see if there are other ways of doing things. I didn't say I would prefer to do it with a router...its just that I would have no option!

Talking of which, I measured up the gap in my workshop today where a lathe will sit one day.......so I am starting to think about it.

Go on Mike

You will never regret it !! you might find that all the other kit will become a little obsolete,

You`re right there Ralph, when you`ve caught the bug the rest off the workshop stands still.

Baz.

I think Mike would enhance all his other tools if/when he gets his lathe........Mike has the imagination to make something that will have parts made with the other tools.

Thing is, fellas, I have about 6 months of furniture projects lined up in my mind...in addition to the recumbent cycle I am making, the next roof-tent I have just started, the dam for the stream at the bottom of the garden, retaining wall and handrail for another part of the garden, some doors for my garden shed, airing cupboards doors, etc, in addition to playing team squash ......oh, and doing a university course...... not sure I am ready for something as obviously addictive as turning!
