I've not used a belt sander for some years - decided I now need one so I've bought a 'Parkside' one from Lidl. Not used it in anger but have tried running it - does seem to be very noisy similar to a gearbox wearing out 'cause it hasn't been lubricatefd.

Are Belt sanders noisy or is it just the quality of the Parkside ones?

Some belt sanders can be a little noisy but without hearing it i could not say if yours is excessively noisy.

Like all inexpensive tools and machinery, they are fitted with basic brush motors which are always noisy, nothing wrong with this, in the main they will go on forever. I have had many of this sort of tool as well as the more sophisticated ones which are a lot quieter and grossly more expensive, for the amateur woodworker you will find this tool more than adequate if you don't mind a little excessive noise, if it works well then use it.

Derek.
