I have had this machine for a very long time, I guess around 25 years. Recently when drilling in mild steel the 10mm drill bit has stopped turning but the spindle continues to turn. I have stripped down the quill and spindle assembly and found that the very top of the splined portion of the spindle has been bevelled and shows signs of abrasion. I cannot get access to the driven part that the spline goes in to.

I have partially overcome the problem by making sure that the table is set as high as possible so that the maximum length of spline is inserted in the drive mechanism.

My questions are: Is my diagnosis of the problem correct?

Are spare parts still available for a machine of this age and if so, where? Thanks

I doubt if any parts are still available but have a look here and possibly contact them
