Looks like an excellent finish Marc, well done. Is it resistant to someone putting a hot cup of coffee or tea on there without a coaster? It looks so shiny that the mug could slide down the table and straight off the other end - but at least the top would be unharmed!

    Thanks Olly.

The Carnauba wax is meant to be quite tough but I wouldn't try finding out how strong. I did pass on to my daughter about coasters.

Regarding the sliding off the table............are you saying its not level!

Be like the cowboy films wouldn't it!

Did you find out if it was maple or sycamore in the end?
    Show/hide user stats

    Olly

Its definitely not Sycamore, its a toss up between Maple and Cherry in my inexperienced view

    Unless theres another !

Ah, that's good, I didn't think it was sycamore either!

I don't want to start this discussion again, but I'd be inclined to say it's maple, looking at some of the photo's. You also mentioned before that these were old floorboards... I've definitely heard of people laying maple floors, but cherry? That's news to me!

Next question you'll have to ask yourself is whether it's English, European or American...!!

    Show/hide user stats

    Olly,

yes, cherry is available as a flooring.

Like you, I don't want to start this discussion again either!

What I do know is its tree wood and it came from London so it must be English!

    Hi Warren

    Thankyou mate, appreciate it.

Its cutting a sort of tenon, don't know the terminology for the joint but, looking down at the top its more like an 'L' shape (Half tenon on 2 sides) to fit flush into the corner of the rails so you would have (as in the sides of the leg) A & B cut, C & D not cut down.

    If you understand that.

    Thanks again my friend.

    Marc
