Hi Nick, and welcome. Thanks for posting all those photos.........the next lot won't take you 4 hours!! You've got some really nice designs there, and a couple of recurring themes to tie it all together. Excellent!! I particularly like this piece and the coffee table along similar lines. It would be really good if you have the chance if you could just put a short note on some of them describing materials, design choices, techniques, finishes etc..........and even better if you could say a bit about yourself, and particularly the county you live in, in your profile. Well done! Mike

hello chaps all my stuff is made from oak,i got a job lot of offcuts cheap from a woodyard in liverpool,i got a fair bit of european oak some american red and a small amount of american white. the pegs in the corners are american black walnut also cheap offcuts,i dont see the point of paying full price for 12 foot legths just to cut them down to 4 foot,i usually get about 4 foot offcuts half price . ive tried all kinds of finishes tung oil, danish oil, beeswax you name it ive tried it but my bull terrier has a horrible habbit of licking the finish off meaning a re sand so i found a 2 part finish from rustins called plastic coat it dries in about 10 mins and is re coatable in about 30 mins its that tough ive done my worktops in it. location i live right between preston & liverpool. how soon till you start taking the p***,do i have a week to settle in first.

Licking the finish off your furniture!!!!!! Thats one sick puppy you own! Why don't you try feeding him?!! Sparky's dog has eaten all of his garden and grass....don't let the two of them breed, will you, or nothing will be safe!! I'm about to try Rustins Plastic Coat on Derek's recommendation. Did you thin it first? Mike
|
 |
Nick You can send your dog down here and have the last of my varnish I'm trying to use up. I want to get some of that Plastic Coating myself. I must say it's far easier to take the p... when you make a mess of things. I suppose that's why I usually get it and I've got a good one coming up next week P J

Mike Will that Rustins Plastic coat be for the dog then.? PJ now youve got us intreegued any clues ? Ralph

The dogs got a tongue like sandpaper and drools like homer simpson with a doughnut ! with the rustins i didn`t thin it first its quite thin when mixed ,but if you are doing a large surface i would say to use one of the small foam rollers for gloss roll it on quite quick and try not to fiddle with it,it really does dry quick and will show up.And just a warning try not to use a plastic container for applying it from,i did some of it on the dining table with about 4 layers of newspaper on ,left the plastic tub there waiting to do the next coat and it ate through the container and welded the newspaper to the dining table( i was in trouble with a capital T ) i now use one of the bosses flan dishes as she`s forgotten where the cooker is ! What it going on and is it going in the gallery ? nick

Hi Nick No mate, If you go to your details (just under the top left of the screen where you usually sign on) and you'll see -My Inbox, My Details, My Profile, My Bookmarks and All my pages. Click on the profile and fill in some details about yourself, then others will get to know a little more about you. This can come in handy when you need to buy things local to you, others may know somewhere that will help. ie; You live right between preston & liverpool and something like - you enjoy D.I.Y.........eating & breathing and so on Marc
