    Hey Sparky

That's quite good.  The frog is good too but the log the frog is on is marvellous!

I take my hat off to you, it is a great piece of carving,

    Nice one Marc.

    Another string to your bow.

He might have a bit of trouble flying though with a great big screw up his jack-see .

    Well done mate, Baz.

    Thanks Ralph & Baz

I certainly need a lot of practice and hopefully I'll be able to try carving different wood which wont be so easy to cut into.

    ps; Baz

Its OK, the pointy bit was blunted for easy entrance!

    Easy for you maybe??????

Now were`s that number for the RSPB,???????????!!!!!!!!!

    Baz.

    LOL

Dont worry Baz, once I've taken the screw out I'll then remove the bolder from between its legs!

Since my Swiss Army knife disappeared a couple of months ago you have submitted 2 carvings on here, Sparky........ I'm just beginning to wonder......!!

This is a really nice carving. I like it. You will surely run out of window cills soon, with carvings and turnings to accomodate!

I guess the best thing about carving is that you can sit around in the lounge and do it, in the evening, without anyone complaining.....

    Mike

You just try that in our lounge!

     Mike.

I find the carving vice difficult to fix to the arm of the settee, but it does help being able to watch the instructional dvd & carve at the same time!!!!!!!!!

Has Sparky been sending his dust fairy on a night raid, now i know why your workshop looked so clean in the last photo.

Surely you just screw the vice to the arm??......and who needs instructions for carving? Isn't it as simple as   "Remove everything that doesn't look like a blue tit / frog on a log etc?"
    Show/hide user stats

It rocks too much, i think it`s all the padding & fabric, though if i cut that all off ...............

& the instructional dvd who said it had anything to do with carving!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Richard.

I'm so sorry mate, I didn't see your first comment. Apologies my friend and thankyou for your kind words.

The logs details were drawn with watercolour pencils.

I must admit not having a carving vice..........the wife thought it was for a camera, she got undressed to pose and I ran off vowing never to carve indoors again!

    http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/6331/63420200rx8.gif

I found using my hands to hold the wood easier than trying to clamp it onto something.....just got a few cuts were the chisel left the wood and found my fingers!

    Baz

When you've finished with my DVDs, pass them to Mike, I think he may enjoy them!!

     Sparky

I hope you don't hold the wood between you knees! one slip could bring about a gender change very quickly.

    George

PS you would lose your interest in birds! George
    Show/hide user stats

Ohhhhh George, thats not nice..........shuddering just thinking about it.....

No mate, hands on bench, that way if I do slip I wont loose the chisel
