As the site grows we're seeing more posts from companies trying to advertise unannounced in the forum. It's one thing for our regular members, who also sell tools for a living, to make suggestions with links to their own websites, that's fine in my view.

It's quite another thing for unknown companies to come on the forum and advertise their products unannounced in the forum. This dilutes the quality of the forum and is, in my view, insulting to everyone on GW. Companies can advertise on the website, but there are proper paid channels for this that fund the upkeep and development of GW.com.

If you see any inappropriate advertising in the forum please use the 'Report this thread to the moderator' link at the bottom of the page to let me know about it.

Hi Baz,

It doesn't need to be reported but I'm asking that members do report these posts because there's a good chance I'll miss them otherwise. Sometimes the forum gets so busy that it's just not feasible to keep up with everything.

You're right though, advertising is necessary on a site like this, just like it is in the mags. The bonus is that it's targeted, and tends to be relevant to most people who visit the site.
