Hello everybody, After reading about the site in GW have joined up to take part in the fun  My woodwork is purely as a hobby so yes I'm in the amiture category so I will posting more questions than answers for a while Is there the facility to view a members list and members logged on ? Regards Andy

The members list isn't viewable at the moment but it might be something we'll integrate in the future. Being able to view members online would be nice ~ I'll look into it...

Just a thought, you have the gallery for work, will you be doing a seperate one for members own workshops ? Thanks David

Hi David,
The gallery seems to have only finished projects in it at the moment but it can be used for anything you like, so you could open a workshop gallery. There's also a nice feature to allow people to post their own images to any gallery you create, so you could create a 'my workshop' gallery and ask other people to submit pics of their workshops too!
The possibilities are endless...!

We're getting a healthy number of new members every day. We currently have several hundred registered members but will soon hit four digits! It's a bit pointless posting a specific number because it would be out of date the same day!

Hi great start. I'd like to offer my suggestions for the future: Take a long hard look at Finewoodworking.com Subscribers have access to all the past articles in pdf. They can view, print or save virtually any article from the vast archive. Add to that video clips of tool review, techniques, projects etc and you have a great site. I'd like to be able to do the same here. Run a virtual course on Google Sketchup. Thanks for your words of encouragement.
We did consider the PDF route when developing the site but HTML is better at providing accessibility for all who may want to use this site. For example, HTML can be read by text only browsers, as can the alt tags that lie behind the images – this kind of accessibility functionality isn't widely supported by PDF documents. HTML is also highly visible to search engines such as Google, Yahoo and Microsoft's Live Search, this is another advantage that PDF documents don't share and one that gives us excellent search results.
As you're probably aware, GetWoodworking.com is the online presence for Good Woodworking, The Woodworker and Practical Woodworking magazines so there is a huge archive of material that can be uploaded to the site. What I'm trying to do at the moment is upload some of the most informative articles in all areas of woodwork. It's a never-ending task but one that will ensure the online archive here at GW will grow and grow, week on week.
Regarding video, this is something we've been looking into. In-fact, the site is video ready, you can link any video you have uploaded to YouTube or Google Video directly into the forums. Feel free to give it a try.
CAD is another area we're planning articles on. These will appear on the site at some point in the future. I'm interested in giving a broad view on the CAD options available from basic 2D draughting through to full scale parametric 3D modeling software for professional use.
If you check out the current (Nov) issue of The Woodworker, there is the first in a four part series on designing and running websites for woodworkers. We're actively embracing technology both in the magazines and here on GW so please keep your suggestions coming. It's great for us to know what your want to see both in print and on the web.

Hi woodworking gang still trying to find my way round the site but wot ive seen so far is good i took early retirement a few years ago i have convert my garage to a workshop i try and get in there as often as i can. It the challenge of different types of woodworking projects that i find most rewarding. i have no qualifications at all in woodworking just learn by my mistakes boy i make plenty of them Spencer

i just joined pretty new to woodworking but would like to build a 6x6 gazebo i know the angles should be 30 degrees but does anybody know the width of each section
