I've just recently acquired a Record 735 plane in superb condition.  It is a rather strange looking animal and beyond knowing it is for working fibreboard and hardboard I don't know much about it, what it is exactly designed to do or how to use it correctly.  ls there anyone out there who has the original makers instructions who would email me a copy?  Will be really grateful to you......

You're not the only one - or do you have another handle?

    Try this Record 735

    Hi Philip

Go to this web site http://www.supertool.com/StanleyBG/stan13.htm  look at the Stanley #193-5 planes.  Does yours look like these?

If its what I think it is, it will use replaceable blades, akin to razor blades, I don't have a clue where new ones could be found, maybe Stanley Blades might fit?

To add, if you can find a copy of "Planecraft"by C. & j. Hampton (Record tool company) the 1959 edition, chapter 17 tells and shows all!

The 735 did have a sharpenable blade, do you have the grooving attachment?

Nice for a collection, but as for use? Maybe somebody has used one?

I've got all the blades and attachments for the plane as it is still in its box and looks hardly used.

Unfortunately my copy of "Planecraft"is from 1954 and so does not make any mention of the 735.    I don't think I'm likely to use the plane much - it appears not to have been one of Record's great successes! - but I would like to find out more about it so I will try to get hold of the later edition.

    Thanks for this info.

    Hi Derek.

I have not recieved the instructions as yet. I checked the email address I gave and I have given you the correct one. Please could you try again, the first one must have gone off into the big black internet hole.

    Many thanks.
