With regards to oscar windebanks and tyler hardwoods, I emailed both companies recently with regards to purchasing some american black walnut and ash for my next couple of projects. Tyler hardwoods were a lot more expensive with a £20 per cube difference for the walnut, whereas ash was £3 per cube more expensive than oscar windebanks.
Hopefully if the weather is good tomorrow, then I will go to windebanks to purchase my timber. I will let you know what I think of the place now that it has been taken over.

Al, Just for curiosities sake, I asked at my local suppliers, how much oak would be as an example ex 150x25 p.s.e expecting something good as an account customer, would you believe £8. 64 per metre, thank god i had no intention of buying, I was just comparing prices to etimate cost of a job. Phew!! Derek.

 Derek
That works out at about £70 per cubic foot. A staggering amount, but it does depend on what oak they sell/quoted you for. But you didnt say wether your local supplier was a builders merchant such as jewsons, or a saw mill/timber merchants.
Also you were quoted for p.s.e. (planed square edged) timber, whereas I always buy my timber sawn as I have use of a planer and 4 sided planer.

Al, I know all these things, and I would never bur p.s.e. in any case, I did say i did it for a comparison, I already have the oak I need for my project. As somebody already said, 'I have been round the block already', and know where to go. derek. p.s. I sent a message to your inbox about your 4 sided planer you have at the place of your work.

Ronen, Just a thought... have you looked at the website: www.bushcraftuk.com? Some of the members there make their own bows, and I believe that some are professional bowyers. Bob.

I get lots of wood from "freecycle" and skips, in fact i get all my wood this way.

Just a thought but wy not chat up your nearest Joiners, most aras have a joinery shop, there names will be in the Yellow Pages, With the new Waste Regulations i am sure they would reather give away there offcuts as a way of Recycling rather than pay to dispose of it. As for the lemonwood, I buy it from Yandles of Martock, it is 50 miles each way but the timber is excelent and the prices are good, i just save up and stock up rather than make several trips. Ralph

Ralph, That's where the greatest portion of my timber comes from, my joinery friends here in the village, no end of it. derek.

Derek sadly my last place dried up, but there is a new one down the road so need to aproach them soon. Hope they are as generous as the last place, Ralph

Welcome Dave, I am sure people are going to be interested in this...... ......what sort of oak are you talking about? English, American white, European etc, and seasoned/ kiln dried or green? And is it just oak, or do you do the same with other timbers? Mike

Dave have tried to open your e-mail but it wont. I`m very interested only at junction 28. If you click message me in your profile, people can get in touch privately via this forum. Cheers, Baz.
