I know they say "Charity starts at home" but after reading a thread recently where it was mentioned that a local club held charity sales of there work, i wondered how much interest there might be in a larger version on this site. It needent be a big flashy item just your a piece you would be happy to donate, it needent be a specifit field although i appreciate woodturning is probably the easiest item to enter. If there is any interest let us hear and if there is enough maybe we could ask the help of Ben and the magazines. Please dont make any plans to produce something yet !!! this is only a starting point to find out if there is any interest or help. Ralph

Sounds like a good idea to me. Dave

So whats was the outcome Ralph? Marc

Marc There were only 4 responses to the question and whilst i would be happy to go ahead i think it would be very dificult to get any assistance with so few entrants. May be second time round we might get more, ??????? Ralph

Hi Ralph One problem with that is most the old regulars have left to another sites forum......and the new ones only seem to post one or two posts. Could be worth a wait and see who stays longer then try. Marc

Sad but true Marc Will try again in the new year Ralph

Ralph, How were you thinking of working this? The club i go to save all the items for 12 months then have a stall at a local fete. Each month quite a few members contribute, at least 20 a month. So by the time of the fete they have at least 240 items. With so few regulars being turners on the forum, i feel (sadly) we would struggle to accrue enough items to warrent the price of a stall. Also with everyone being on the whole so far apart, the logistics of this could prove difficult. This is in no way a criticism, i really hope this idea will take off, & would definitely be happy to take part. Baz.

It sounds like a good idea, Perhaps the stall could be at one of the woodworking shows say Ali Pali perhaps it could be donated free, we would have to sort out what charity? who would man the stall ?and how would you price the work for sale? perhaps that would be the wrong type of venue, like taking coals to Newcastle, just a thought. George

The idea was based on something i saw years ago one of the then magazines was involved and they auctioned/sold the work at one of the big shows, like George said I was hoping to get some help from an organisation like the mags or even the AWGB they attend the shows and have the access to turners who might contribute,? As for the charity a woodworking or woodturning based charity would be best but that would be up for discussion if or when it happened. Ralph

Hi I too liked the idea but the logistics are perhaps too difficult? Not sure there is a market given the number of people who didn't buy last time our club did a public demo. Anyway - hope you're well. Cheers Dave

One problem with that is most the old regulars have left to another sites forum......and the new ones only seem to post one or two posts. Marc I'm still here!! ..........but at the moment I'm welding, so no chance of producing anything for charity. I think this is a laudible idea, but agree with Baz that there are a number of major problems to overcome. I fear someone may go to a lot of trouble and be left with a car full of unsold stuff. Mike
