The base maybe a tad thick and large for the whole look of it but, again, you've done a damn good job, well done  

Thanks but it's not finished yet. The base is there to hold the piece in the chuck and will be parted off once I've finished shaping and finishing the top of the body and lid.

as a non-turner I don't comment on turning, but...

....seeing the name of this thread is a little reminder that saving images under a new name is a good idea when putting stuff in your gallery!

If instead of 080512-009.jpg you had called the photo "Elm box, work in progress" or something like that, then when someone comments that would have become the name for the thread. 

Elm was such a nice wood.......pity most of the trees have gone.

Thanks for the heads up Mike, it really didn't occur to me until I saw the files uploaded and then the threads when they started. Probably no way of changing it now but I'll know for next time.

Elm is a really lovelly wood to turn and has a great aroma when worked. The trees may have gone but there is a surprising amount of timber out there.
