Is there supposed to be a rooftent.jpg somewhere or am I missing the point ?

    Cheers Mike

    Mike,

yes, there was a picture of my car with homemade rooftent posted here because it was the only way of attaching it to a private message to Matthew Platt.

It wasn't a woodworking topic, and as you can see, degenerated somewhat! So, I pulled the picture. If demand reached fever-pitch I could return it briefly......but it is probably best left in my holiday snaps album at home!

    Ahhhh
fair enough, been away for a few days and came back to see a heated discussion about a non existent picture, just wondered what all the fuss was about.

Hey Mike.....as I don't take any of the woodworking magazines I have never seen any of your work. Any plans to put some photos on here?

I'll dig some out, One of the problems is that I spend a lot of tim trying things out and so I tend not to get many larger projects done. The latest, which will possibly surface in GWW203 ad isnt entirely woodwork is a knife for carving and camping. First attempt at it and really bitten by the bug so it won't be last. I have some pictures of that to hand so I'll get one up into the gallery in a moment.

Look forward to it!! I lost my knife on my last Africa trip, so it might just inspire me.

I was thinking the same thing only the other day - except, I've been reading Good Wood for over three-years now!

Don't worry Mike, I still enjoy reading about your latest trials and tribulations and hope to one-day see a finish piece.

The piece is mostly a diary type piece. In the old days there wasn't room to include pictures and in its new expanded form as I say I have concentrated mainly on an exploration of various things some of which as you've seen have ended in disaster There's so much project and "how to" based content that I deliberately try to stay away from that, but perhaps I'll veer over that way soon.

    In the meantime ...

Olly you've probably seen this in the other place.

    Cheers Mike

    Excellent Mike, thanks!

So, spalted......um, sycamore maybe....ash perhaps? Whatever it is, it is really lovely.

Did you make the blade as well? And does it run a fair way through the handle? What is the darker section made from? Where are the corkscrew, toothpick and tweezers?!!!

Spalted beech. The dark section is Bog Oak, the blade has a long tang, I didn't make that but I might have a go at it at some point in the future. The blade came from Mathew at Workshop Heaven. Corkscrew and tweezers etc are all on order Beeswax to finish.

    Cheers Mike
